Hi, I m 30yrs, unmarried guy. I ve been suffering from Recurrent Apthus Ulcers for nearly 16yrs. In between I have consulted with many doctors in vain. The ulcers mainly come out on and around the tongue, and inner side of the lips. At present, I am using only Kenacort ointment. I don t smoke, drink or use tobacco. Please, suggest something.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurring ulcers around the tongue and inside lips which seems to be due to viral infection leading to gingivostomatitis.

Other possible reasons for the same is oral thrush, vitamin deficiency especially vitamin B12, and burning mouth syndrome.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- Maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing with supersoft brush and rinsing with antimicrobial mouthwash.

- Do warm saline rinses.

- Avoid hot and acidic food as it will increase your symptoms and use orabase gel for itchiness.

- You can take antiviral medications like Acyclovir along with Ibuprofen for pain.

You should consult dentist for proper examination and to find out exact cause . Doctor may perform oral prophylaxis and may refer you to oral pathologist depending upon the diagnosis.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
