What Causes Recurring Pain In Ribs, Symptoms Of GERD With Stress?

For several months I had LUQ pain that worsened with exercise and now I have that, off and on R side rib pain, GERD symptoms and I throw up some of what I eat x 1 month. Stress makes the burning sensation and nausea worse. I ve taken 10 MG Buspar twice daily x 2 years now. I m a 21 year old female who weighed 126 pounds on the 26th of last month and now I weight 118 pounds. I haven t used other meds for awhile, but used to rarely use small doses of Advil for headaches. I received 150 MG Zantac today to be taken twice daily, but plan to take it once daily before bed so I won t sleep nonstop while on leave visiting my friends this month. Plus I can t afford to fall asleep at work. I also plan to social sip off and on for eighteen days during the visit. Can you give me some insight? I m worried I m developing a stomach ulcer and I really don t know what that entails. My biological father had GERD problems with stress. I ve been eating more salads and such or not eating at all, because I feel like the punishment just isn t worth it.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Stress can make reflux symptoms worse as you mentioned.

Though zantac can be effective for reflux, it would be best to use a medication from the proton pump family of medication.
The medication from the proton pump family would suppress acid production more than the zantac.

Examples include nexium, prilosec, prevacid, aciphex, protonix

Changing your diet would also help eg: (A) small meals frequently rather than large meals
(b)avoiding any spicy , citrus, fatty or fried foods
(c)reducing intake of tomatoes, onions, caffeine products

In terms of a stomach ulcer, this would cause severe persistent pain usually in the upper middle part of the stomach.

Reflux would not typically cause pain in the LUQ, so you may need to see your doctor to determine the cause of this pain

I hope this helps
