What Causes Recurring Loose Stools In An Infant Post Treatment For Gastroenteritis?

Hi, My daughter is 11 months old..last week she has gastroenteritis and was treated for the same.. Her loose stools got better for couple of days.. She is again passing loose stools (3 times) yesterday & the day before.. Right now she has a slight temperature.. Why is loose stools recurring?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of recurring loose stools post treatment for gastroenteritis which is very common in this age group and most of it is caused due to viral infections and it can affect intestine along with nose, throat and lungs. Need not to worry at all. I would suggest you to ensure you are giving adequate hydration, oral intake and replenishing water to avoid salt losses. Visit gastroenterologist once and get it examined. You should go for complete examination and start treatment after that. Intravenous fluid administration is also recommended. Don't panic. You should give oral rehydration solution. Give combination of antibiotic along with antihistamine medication.
