General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thanks for writing.

Recurrent leg muscle cramps may be due to several conditions like dehydration, neuropathy, Myopathy, any injury or trauma to the area, poor diabetic control or many other conditions. It is advisable for you get yourself worked up for it. You may require a complete physical examination, renal function test, fasting and post prandial Sugars, CPK, nerve conduction tests and other tests if required. I suggest you consult a physician to get yourself checked for the above conditions. In the mean time you can increase hydration alongwith adequate salt intake and start a program of muscle training in consultation with a physiotherapist to prevent recurrence of cramps.

Hope it helps.
