What Causes Recurrent Dry Cough Post Quadruple Bypass Surgery?

My husband had quadruple bypass surgery with a valve repair about a year ago. Before, during and after his surgery he had a nagging dry cough. Shortly after the surgery the cough stopped but has recently returned. He has been coughing for two months now. What could be the cause. Our general doctor recommended a humidifier (that did not help). What could be the cause?

Hi
He needs a chest x-ray for a persistent cough like this to rule out pneumonia or a lung tumor but most likely the problem is from gastric acid reflux and he should ask his doctor for a prescription for Prilosec or Nexium
