What Causes Recurrent Cough?

I have a chronic cough, feels like my throat is closing and choking with taste of salt. The cough last about two or three months, goes away and returns in three or four weeks. Seems to last longer each time. Any ideas? I have been treated for acid reflux, asthma and bronchitis. Have also had my blood pressure changed several times. .

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Out of the 4 common causes for chronic cough, you have been treated for 2 these. If the treatment was for an adequate amount of time, then it is possible that it may be due to the other causes.

The 4 most common reasons for chronic cough are: (1)post nasal drip syndrome, now called upper airway cough syndrome. This is the the most common. A large number of persons are not aware of the drip itself and only present with the cough

Treated with decongestant/anti histamine combination along with nasal sprays such as nasonex, nasocort, flonase.
Sometimes no effect is seen for 3 weeks. Meds need to be continued for at least a few months

(2) reflux
(3)asthma
(4)non asthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis- this is a special type of bronchitis related to the presence of a certain type of white blood cell in the air passages. Can be diagnosed based on sputum sample to the lab. Treated with inhaled or oral steroids.

I hope this helps
