What Causes Rashes On Chest And Back While Having Gastroenteritis?

Hello, I am just getting over a stomach virus. Went and saw doc on Wednesday and he said it was Gastroenteritis but also had me do some lab work (stool specimen). I still have a bit if the diarrhea part, but vomiting has subsided. I am having really bad night sweats where I m literally soaking through my pajamas and saturating sheets and pillows. Then, this morning I woke up and noticed a rash on my chest and back and even felt itchy in my entire scalp. Doc asked me Wednesday if I had noticed any rash, but I hadn t yet, but now I have seen one. What s going on?! I m worried sick that my 4-month old son is going to get this. :(

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thank you for your question.
Viral rash is common in may types of viral infections. Often gastroenteritis is often caused by a virus and the rash may turn up after the worst of the symptoms are resolving. The best way to prevent giving this to your child is to make sure that you are washing your hands frequently.
