What Causes Rashes All Over The Body?

Dear doctor, my mother is 50+ in age and she is suffering from rashes appearing all over her body recently. the rashes appear in clusters, look like mosquito bites and cause itching. The general physician suggested its "Arctic area allergy" and has something to do with the blood, also that it has no cure. My mother is very stressed due to this. Please help

Hello,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your mother's history and would like to make suggestions for her as follows:

1. I would like to know more details about her like - a. Since when she has itching & rashes? b. Any day/night or seasonal variation? c. What is the frequency? d. How long they last? e. Does she have any allergies? f. Does she have any other medical conditions? g. Does she take any medications frequently/regularly?

Above details would help me to know your mother's complaints better and therefore to make more specific suggestions. At present, I would suggest her as follows, from your given information:

2. I usually prescribe my such patients levocetirizine or cetirizine in morning and hydroxyzine in evening.

3. I would also suggest her application of calamine lotion or moisturizing lotion/cream over the rashes and dry skin.

4. I usually also suggest my such patients a good multivitamin-multimineral supplement containing especially vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin A, zinc, selenium & essential fatty acids, usually for 2-3 months, which may help improve both skin as well as immunity.

5. To identification of the cause of such rashes, I usually suggest investigations like complete blood counts, ESR, CRP, thyroid testing, stool examination, urine examination, serum total IgE, allergy testing, serum ANA, etc. However, before choosing appropriate tests, detailed history of the patient is necessary.

Hope above information will be helpful to your mother.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish your mother the best of the health ahead.

Thank you & Regards.
