What Causes Rash On The Calves While Taking Plaquenil And Prednisone For Overlap Connective Syndrome?

My name is Anita. I was diagnosed with Overlap Connective Syndrome. I currently taking plaquenil and prednisone I do feel a lot better. The only problem is that I have some rash on both of my calves. Don t itch or burn but I was wondering if it was a side effect from medication. I am walking in the afternoon, which in South Texas the sun is still very bright around the time I walk. Not sure if my rash is from the sun or meds??

thanks for your query in HCM

dear ANITA,

plaquenil is hydroxychloroquine, and the side effects are gastrointestinal disturbances, skin rashes and vision problems. prenisolone doesn't cause rashes. so probably the rash is because of plaquenil.

thank you
