What Causes Rapid Rise In Heart Beat And Chest Pain After Having Sex?

I am a 28 year old woman with no history of heart problems or blood issues. Today after sex with my husband my heart started beating much harder than it ever has and I felt like I couldn't breathe. And I have just felt a little funny since. It had been 3 hours and my upper left chest area still hurts slightly. But mostly just feels strange. Is this a heart attack? Do I really need to go to the ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

It may not be a heart attack, but I would recommend a visit to the ER, to catch any abnormal heart beats, rhythm, or arrhythmias. But for now, it would be best to avoid sexual contact and any physical activities that can aggravate any rapid increase in heart beat or rhythm.

Best wishes.
