Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Sometimes when I am napping my heart beats really fast and it wakes me up. lt will last about a minute or 2 and go back to normal. There is a history of rapid heart beat in 3 of my older siblings 2 of which had to have the surgery to make it stop(don t know the name of the surgery). Could this be what is happening to me? Pat
Dear I can understand your concern . You have palpitations that is abnormal awareness of heart beat mainly during at rest, while you are sleeping. It has many causes such as 1.anxiety and stress 2 . hyperthyroidism 3 . arrhythmia that is abnormal rhythm in heart. As you have mentioned you have family history of abnormal rhythm so In my opinion you should consult to your physician .He will ask few questions and do complete examination that will help in making diagnosis . If needed he can do few blood work and thyroid profile etc. ECG is must to be done and if required he can do Holter monitoring that is simply recording of ecg for 24 to 48 hours .that can detect abnormal rhythm if any.hope this will help you.
