Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 45 year old woman and i have been experiencing a rapid heart rate it comes and goes and does not matter if i am sitting, walking, or working out. I bought a polar heart rate monitor so i can monitor when it starts happening. tonight i have been monitoring for the past hour. my average rate is 99. all i did was cook dinner and sit during that time. how concerned should i be? at what rate does it become a danger? will it cause a heart attack? I also have been tracking it for a few months now and i wonder if it could be hormone related

What Causes Rapid Heart Rate In Elderly?
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic The normal heart rate range is 60 to 100. Though 99 is within normal range , it is at the upper limit. The increased heart rate can increase the work of the heart and cause problems if it continues but should not an immediate complication. You can schedule an appointment with your doctor to find out the cause. This involves blood tests (complete blood count, thyroid function tests) ,as well as an ECG. I hope this helps
