Hi. My boyfriend had his appendix taken out about ten years ago. They put a stitch in his belly button. well we were laying in bed tonight. and it had nasty green pus in it. he wiped it out and started bleeding a little bit. should we be worried? or go to the e.r and get it.checked out?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of undergoing appendectomy 10 years ago, looks to be done by Laparoscopy method.
The green pus followed by blood from the umbilicus after 10 years of appendectomy can be due to local problem.
This can be due to umbilical granuloma or sinus.
I would advise you the following.
Pour lots of hydrogen peroxide on the wound and then clean with betadine liquid.
If there is a mass or so, consult a General Surgeon for further care, surgery as may be needed.
