What Causes Purple Discoloration On Palate And At The Back Of Throat?

The roof of my mouth is purple up top yellow towards the back of my throat and hurts quite bad as if there was a cut up there. I have been "congested" lately as my doctor suggested causing me to develop a slight cough and a red left eye. Throat hurts a little when I swallow a lot when I clench it

Hi dear ,

As per your query you have purple discoloration at the back of the palate along with congestion and pain in throat . The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards a condition known as pharyngitis . Pharyngitis is inflammation of the pharynx , the back of the throat. Viruses are the most common cause of pharyngitis , but some sore throats are caused by bacterial infections. Sometimes acid reflux and allergic reaction can also be one of the cause . I would suggest you to do warm saline rinses several times a day and take steam twice a day to relieve the congestion . Consult ENT specialist for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may order swab test , blood test and virus culture test to confirm the diagnosis and rule out condition like hemangioma and kaposi sarcoma .
