What Causes Prolonged Periods While On Alysena Birth Control Pill?

I have decided that I wanted to go on only hormonal birth control pills and stop taking sugar pills. It's been almost 2 months since I'm only on hormones and when I got my period in the second month it hasn't stopped. I've had it for about three weeks and after the first week it hasn't been a normal flow it's been really really light but some blood does come out in random times of the day. I was wondering how long it will take for this to stop? I have also been on birth control with sugar pills for 3 years. It's alysena 28 birth control.

Hi..Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

Birth control pills contains hormones estrogen and progesterone. They should be taken for regular once a day for 21 days, then they should be stopped ( in your case a iron supplement pill or sugar pill is given for rest days ) & menstruation will follow. They then should be started again from 1st day of menstrual bleeding.
I think you are not quitting the Alysena birth control pill after 21 days or so & take sugar pills instead. If you are taking these hormone pill regularly menstruation will not take place & you would have prolonged period.

So stop taking hormone pill regularly. For further queries visit a gynaecologist

Don't worry you would be fine
Hope this information helps.
