What Causes Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding?

I am 26 and have extended and continuous menstrual cycles for the last 6 months or so, medium bleeding but includes occasional blood clots about the side of an egg. My doctor has placed me on Megestrol last week but had a clot again today. Should I be concerned? what else should I do? I sometimes feel shaky but not sure if it s related.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Prolonged menstrual bleeding could be due to the hormonal imbalance, endometriosis, polyp, endometrial dysplasia.
I would suggest to consult the experience gynecologist and undergo vaginal examination, reproductive hormone analysis, endometrial biopsy/colposcopy/pap smear to rule out the causes.
Specific treatment will depend on the cause
Progesterone pill and tranexamic acid will help you
If bleedings still continue then progesterone shot and D& C is the treatment.
Take healthy diet with iron supplements
Maintain proper pelvic hygiene.
Hope this may help you
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
