What Causes Positive HPV In Pap Smear Result?

Hello. I received (for the first time) an abnormal pap smear result. My gynecologist has decided to have my specimen tested for HPV. Since I have been married for two years and was not sexually active for several years prior to my marriage to my husband (same for him) I did some research. I know HPV can be dormant for years, but I also remembered that I am pretty sure my husband and I have intercourse the night before the pap smear (I m not 100% but I am pretty sure). If that s the case, could the fact that we may have had intercourse less that 24 hours prior to my test, would that cause the cells to look abnormal?

Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, now as long as the question of viral infection is concern or sexually transmitted disease are concern of course this is all happens because of exposure to positive persons and recent history of intercourse does not matter in this case or any history of time period of intercourse is least concern but important is non of partner should have any positive history of infection, hope this helps, take care.
