What Causes Popping Sensation In Rib Cage While Breathing?
I fell and injured the left side of my rib cage 8 days ago. Besides the pain I am now feeling a pop when I breathe. This started about 4 days ago. It doesn t hurt when it pops. It just feels weird. Should I seek medical advice? Is there any thing they can do or does it just need to heal?
It might be best to get a chest x-ray to be certain the injury didn't cause a small pneumothorax. A pneumothorax is air released out of the lungs' alveoli that causes an area of collapsed lung. A small one cause a pop and feeling weird without causing a lot of pain or shortness of breath like a large one. The symptoms might also be caused by direct rib injury like a mild dislocation, loosened cartilage, or even a fracture. In that case there usually isn't much they can do but let it heal. If it's a small pneumothorax, they may not need to do anything specific, but that is important to diagnose and to follow up on to be sure it does heal. Hope this answer your question.
