Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Popping Sensation And Blockage In Ear?
For the past month or so, I have occasionally felt light popping in my left ear, almost like there is air or something blocking it. I also have a callus in my left ear which my dermatologist has already checked out. I am now recovering from a bad case of the common cold and have found my left ear popping and squeaking due to congestion. However, I felt some popping and it felt blocked even before I got the cold. The cold has only made the symptoms worse. What could be the cause of the irritation in my left ear? Any responses would be helpful. Thanks!
Dear-thanks for using our service .I read the question in detail and will give you my medical advise. First of all, you might be suffering from congestion in your nose and sinus which is reflecting the fullness to the inner ear. This is an area that is very close to the sinus and if you have fullness of it ,that creates a popping and blockage sensation . If you have recurrent cold or sinus and ear infection, that can give you inflammation of the tympanic membrane , and in severe cases, rupture of it. I recommend you to see an ENT for a complete evaluation of this area . I hope that my advise has been helpful. Dr.Sara
