What Causes Piercing Pain In Throat While Swallowing?

I ve had a mild cold for a few days now. My throat would feel sore after i wake up but it d be soothed before noon. Now, i was laying down on my bed with my head rested on a pillow and i was swallowing frequently. Suddenly, at one point, when i swallowed, it felt like a needle jab in my throat, a little off center to the right. I sat up immediately and swallowed again, and the same pain came everytime i swallowed. What does this mean and what can i do to get rid of it?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query throat pain while swallowing could be due to upper respiratory tract infection. It could be due to sinusitis, sore throat and pharyngitis as well. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take tablet Sinarest along with Cetrizine at night time. For relief of throat pain take Calpol. Ibuprofen can help you relieving pain and inflammation. Do warm saline gargles. Avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods. You should take Take soothing lozenges such as . Take luke warm water with turmeric dissolved in it. Your symptoms will start resolving, if symptoms keeps on persisting visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Start proper antibiotic course after thorough examination. Go for fibroptic scan if your symptoms are not resolving at all to find out exact cause and then start treatment. Avoid cold carbonated beverages.
