What Causes Persistent Upper Abdominal Pain?

I have been having upper abdominal pain for the last 3 days. No position seems to make it better or worse. The pains seem to come and go but there is always an underlying dullness. Bowels are moving, no painful urination, and there is some bloating. Pregnancy test is negative.....to be extra cautious.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome to HCM.
I appreciate your concern for the persistent upper abdominal pain.

Incomplete data: Age, body weight, food pain relations, any associated medical illness, history of gall stones, medications taken etc.

In absence of urinary symptoms like loin to groin pain, painful urination or increased frequency, associated vomiting or dyspepsis or heart burns with normal bowel movements there may be a possibility of biliary colic (due to gall bladder disease) or inflammation of the pancreas.

Had you been my patient I would have sought a surgical opinion with relevant investigations like CBC, and abdominal xray, ultrasound scan, etc to rule out the above conditions.

Hope to have answered your query.
Regards
