What Causes Persistent Radiating Pain From Lower Back To Knees?

I have pain from my middle to low back that goes across my hips and down into my legs to my knees. The pain started in just the low back and across the hips, it has progressively gotten worse and spread. The pain is an intense pain, no tingling, no burning, just intense pain. What could possibly be causing this?

The pain you're referring to sounds like what is commonly known as a Sciatica. The description varies from one person to another. It is basically the irritation of a large nerve that supplies the back of your hip all the way upto the feet.
Now the remedy for that is usually just rest. That means to avoid any unnecessary physical activity.
Some vitamin supplements help to soothe the pain.
You can start off with a combination of Vit B12 ,Vit B6 , Vit B1 and Folicacid supplements. Common brand available is Neurobion Forte.
For severe pain you can try a combination of the above with 75mg of Pregabalin at night. It causes drowsiness, especially in the first week , after which you get used to it. You can try that for a month. Make sure you do not drive or use any heavy machinery during the first few days to avoid any harm.
If this doesn't help you might need an MRI to see if any part of the Vertebral column is impinging on a nerve root.
Watch out for any weakness or loss of sensation of your lower limbs. Incase you feel any sort of weakness or loss of sensation in your lower limb you need to consult a neurologist in person for a thorough evaluation.
