What Causes Persistent Productive Cough Despite Using Flonase And Mucinex?

I have had a sinus infection and massive amounts of mucus for 4 weeks. Originally I was given Amoxicillin but that didn't work. Now I have red spots on my tonsils and continue to have a sore throat and alot of mucus causing me to cough. I have used Flonase and Mucinex. Nothing seems to help. I had a culture and it came back negative for strep. What should I do. I am tired of feeling sick.

Hi Dear,

Persistent productive cough despite using Flonase and Mucinex is mainly because of lower respiratory tract infection and it seems infection has become more prominent. Visit pulmonologist once and get it examined and go for chest X-ray, complete blood count and sputum test. Till then

- Do warm saline rinses three times a day.
- Take proper rest and take water after every few mins.
- Apply mist humidifiers in room.
- Take proper course of antibiotics along with anti inflammatory medications after proper prescription.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
