What Causes Persistent Pain In The Heart And Chest?

I had an elf done about a year and half ago for the same problem, I am not under stress. I am happy I know it is not emotional. My heart hurts, it beats and with every beat it HURTS. There are times I can be sitting or standing, where my heart feels like it skipping, sort of like when drinking a slushy and big chunks of ice go through the straw.... It sounds weird but it happens and not all the time before but now the pain is almost everyday. I don t get tired easily, I sleep for 8-12 hours a night. I am a stay at home mom with a 4 year old, I am 24 years old. My grandmother had heart problems, she had to have a pace maker put in she died 5 yrs ago

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have persistent pain in the heart and chest . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons like medication reaction or side-effect , tachycardia , high blood pressure , heart attack , chest infection and angina .But at your age it could be possible that the symptoms are due to acid reflux , stress and anxiety as at this age there is rare chances of heart disease. Still I would suggest you to consult cardiologist for proper examination without any delay and rule out serious cause . Doctor will take history , order blood tests like ECG , TMT , complete blood profile along with troponin t test and check vitals specially blood pressure . Doctor may prescribe sedatives , isosorbide dinitrate , beta blockers or calcium channel blockers along with diuretics . For now take proper rest , have proper diet , do not exert your body , lower your salt consumption , eat light and non spicy and apply warm compresses to chest .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
