What Causes Persistent Pain In Gums Post Root Canal Surgery?

Hi- I have a root canal and crown on my upper molar and experience slight pressure throughout the day which has been for years. I have a metal sensitivity so I just had my crown replaced with an all white one because my original crown had metal underneath it and I was hoping that pressure would go away. Unfortunatly it didn't. I still have that pressure. Not really pain just a slight tinge every once in a while. When I first had the root canal done (over 20 years ago) I had lots of pain so I think I went back and he put a little more gutta percha in it through the crown. Is it possible that from doing that there is a small hole in the filling and that when I just got this new crown, chemicals etc. could have leaked down through the filling causing pressure? or is it something else?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain pressure on the root canal treated tooth can be due to a few reasons like:
1.Infection and pus formation below the root tips of the tooth..
2.It can also be due to high points over the crown.
3.It can also be due to oversized crown.
3.It can also be due to Gum disease causing inflammation and pocket formation in gums..

You should consult a dentist and get evaluated and get an x ray done and get evaluated for whether there is the need to repeat the root canal treatment or replacement of crown or correction of crown ..
As of now you can take a short course of antibiotic like Augmentin 625 mg thrice a day for 5 days as in case of infection it can provide some relief..

Hope this information helps..
