What Causes Persistent Pain In Ankle?

I hurt my ankle five months ago but never went in to have it looked at. When I injured it I rolled it to the side and twisted it completely around so I just assumed I had sprained it and it would heal. I did rest it for a few days and after about a week I was able to walk with less of a limp. After two more weeks I could walk without a limp. It s never stopped hurting though. Have I waited to long to have it looked at or should I go in?
