What Causes Persistent Itching And Warmth On The Injury Despite Taking Antihistamines?

I was stung by a bee under the arm near the arm pit Monday afternoon. It is two days later and the swelling and redness has covered most of the top of my arm from the back to the top of the bicep about 12cm and all the way from the sting to my elbow about 20cm.
I have had 24 hour anti histamine (Clarityne) last night and Monday night, and am occasionally still icing to relieve the itch and heat coming from it.
Just wondering, do I need to visit a doctor today, or wait and see if it continues over the next 24 hours?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain as you are stung by a bee the toxic chemical that it injected under your skin has caused an Allergic reaction leading to soft tissue inflammation and causing redness, itching, heat and swelling..
As you are taking Claritin that is an anti allergic it is an appropriate Medication..
The swelling might take 3 to 4 days more to resolve as the Inflammation of the tissues resolve gradually..
You can also take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
You can apply Steroid ointment over the area..
Continue icing and avoid scratching it as it can cause infection..
You can also apply Calamine lotion to soothe the skin..
In case if still there is no improvement in a week consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can also check for whether there is still the stinger embedded in the skin that can continue to release toxin and inflammation does not subside.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
