What Causes Persistent Fever In Children?

My 9 year old has been running a fever for the last 3 days, from 99.1 to 101.9. I give him Motrin and it will go down for a little while, then it comes back. Should I just go ahead and take him to see his doctor now even though he will probably tell me he has a virus? I just want to make sure it isn't something that could get serious.

Hi,
It seems that he might be having viral fever but at the same time there might be having some bacterial infection as well.
If there is no improvement then consult your doctor and get clinically examined.
Some blood work might required.
Give enough water.
Ok and take care.
