Hi, I m a 44 year old woman. I have had a cough on and off mostly on for the last few years. I ve seen many doctors and no one understands why the cough continues. The last couple of days though I have vaginal bleeding, just when the cough gets really hard. I had my pelvic exam about six months ago everything was fine. Should I worry about it?
Hello dear I understand your concern Persistent cough could be due to chronic bronchitis, COPD, tuberculosis, allergy. I would suggest to consult pulmunologist and undergo examination, sputum examination, routine blood tests, pulmonary function test. Treatment depend on cause. Meanwhile you can take following treatment: Cough syrup containing guaifenesin and dextromethorphan (Q tussin CF): 10 ml three times a day -Drink plenty of lukewarm water -Steam inhalation 3-4 times a day -Strepsil throat lozenges (neem and honey flavor):take every 3 hourly -Avoid cold beverages and exposure to pollutants - Gargling with warm water with added salt Hope this may help you Best regards Dr. Sagar
