What Causes Persistent Cough Even After Taking TB Medication?

Respected Sir,
About my father , My father is 62 years old he has coughing problem from last 3 months he has consult doctor(M.D) he had prescribed some anti-biotic but that problem was not cured then we consult a cardiology specialist he is also a chest and TB specialist the doctor advised us to make the
X-Ray of chest after seeing the report he told he has asthma and suffering from neumonia and asked for a cough test in doubt of Tuberculosis but after the test we got the report negative but the doctor had given some more antibiotic and a coughsyrup for 10 days and then he told after 10 days we will again have x-ray of chest after 10 days no improvement again we visited the same doctor he again asked for a chest x-ray and after seeing the report he told us to start tuberculosis medicines immediately and also given some medicines i.e livosil-b, nuromin forte, deriphyllin 450, rablet-d and a syrup codistar. It has already passed 20 days and already 9 times of tuberculosis medicines has been taken but we are observing less improvement so please advice . Is it something serious ?

Hello
Your father is having cough , very severe and according to you your father has taken anti tubercular treatment 9 times ( QUITE AMAZING & unbelievable ) . Your doctor told that your father is having asthma as well as tuberculosis .
But the treatment mentioned is Livosil-B ( silymarine + THIAMINE ) , NEUROMIN ( multivitamin) deriphyllin 450 mg and rablet-D ( rabeprazole +domperidone). He also took codistar i.e. codeine + chlorpheniramine syrup , a most potent , in spite of this no relief.
Your father's age is 62 years , so I am not sure when your father took treatment for tuberculosis?
If your father taken treatment for 9 times as anti tubercular , might have developed MULTI DRUG RESISTANT TUBERCULOSIS ( MDR-TB ) , although curable but treatment is very costly and time consuming .
When such patient visit I advise my patient to take monteleukast+ bambuterole tablet once or twice in day till complete relief.
Get in M R I of lungs , bronchoscopy for TUBERCULOSIS confirmation , blood for C B C, E S R ( if very high i.e elevated level > 100 mm strongly suggestive of tuberculosis ) , Sputum for A F B , Protein Purified Derivative( PPD )-Tuberculin Skin Test .
In MDR TB cases usually sputum comes POSITIVE for A F B.
In my opinion consult one more CHEST & TUBERCULOSIS specialist and get his opinion.
One more thing I want to mention that your father's case is very serious ( because of MDT TB ) so consult as early as possible.
