What Causes Persistent Cough And Discomfort In Throat?

I have been coughing till i gag ( or actually puke) for 3 months now...dry hack...amazing amounts of flem produced... ( white, green and brown) I am now at the point where I am losing sleep ( got 4 hours last night) from coughing and keeping my wife awake as well. Feels like needles and pins in my throat when I cough....get dizzy sometimes after a spell of coughing...see floaties in front of my eyes...it is getting tiresome and I am fatigued easily now...12 hour days were no problem last fall...I do 4 now and I need a nap. I suggested antibiotics to the last GP I saw and he thought it was whooping cough and said there is no treatment for that. I am thinking bronchitis or pneumonia but he wouldn t prescribe antibiotics ( I have taken them twice in my life maybe 3 times) and I feel it would be worth a try. How do I get ampicillin or some broad spectrum antibiotic to try and clear this up. It was supposed to have been gone by 4 weeks ago. I am hurting bad ! Help

Hi.
Thanks for your question and an elucidate history.
The production of colored flame Itself is an indication for antibiotics.
Such a long duration of cough needs proper investigatios.
I would advise you the following :
X-ray of the chest and sinuses, followed by a CT scan if any positive findings.
Examination of the flame for gram staining, culture and sensitivity.
ENT and Pulmonologist opinion.

Proper investigations alone can give you proper diagnosis and treatment.
