What Causes Persistent Cough And Congestion?

Hi, so since last October I have been coughing up what I would say are chunks of mucus on a daily basis. I believe it starting when I redid my deck and was power washing black mold. I used to run 7 miles for fun... Now I can barely do any excerise without being able to breath. I did have sinus surgery in June bc I was having migraines, facial pain, breathing issues.... and I ended up having a serious infection in my nasal sinuses as well as a really large cysts and several smaller cysts. The surgery did relive the the migraines and facial pain and I can def breath better... But I am still constantly coughing up a lot of greenish yellow stuff. I do have stupid allergies to things. Not confirmed but almost positive I am allergic to glycol and polyester. Every time I use or wear it I break out with contact dermatitis. Also if I eat a lot of crappy food full of preservatives I get sick. I don't know what to do. I am always tired as well. My ENT said this is not related to my sinuses. I have had a chest X-ray... That was clear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sandy

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....

As per your complain it seems that coughing seems to be due to allergic reaction while yellowish green phlegm can be due to superceeded infection..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do a sputum or throat swab culture and advise you a course of antibiotics like Azithromycin,anti-allergics like Benadryl, anti-inflammatory medicine like advil, mucolytics like Bromohexine and decongestants like Pseudoephadrine..
Do steam inhalations and warm saline gargles..
Do saline nasal irrigations..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Avoid exposure to allergens and drink plenty of warm water throughout the day..
Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
