What Causes Persistent Body Temperature?

my husband is in a lousy nursing home as they all are. I was thre last evening the 26th and he was very hot had the lvn to take temperature and it was 99.6 he administered tylenol liquid 325 mg. he said. two hours later he took his emp again ant it was 99.3 he gave him more tylenol and another two hours it went to 99.1. I have to be out of nursing home by 9p.m. so he told me to call back when I got home and he would let me know the temp before he left at 10 p.m. which was 98.5 he also said for me to call back at 12a.m. to talk to the lvn and she would give me the temp which she did not come to the phone and the rude female answered and said she left it on the chart and it was 99.1 and I said it is going back up has she given hiim more tylenol? she says I guess I said I want her to call me and she has not done so and that has been 2-1/2 hours ago. It is hard for anyone to answer the phone,. He jhas dementhia. prostrait cancer hard of hearing was blown up in a tank in the service he was 82 years old the 23rd of July. I have an appt. for him Monday 28th at the VA hospital and prayerfully he will be alright to make appt. I am very tired as I go every day to take care of him and praying he will be alright I am afraid they are giving him too much tylenol and who knows what else as I don t trust them. I am praying I can get aid and attendance form the veterans and bring him home so I can care for him as he does not belong in this or any other nursing home. I have had some real bad problems with them all. Praying you can give me some help and advice. Mrs. Nadine Casiimiro Pasderny.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
welcome to hcm,
short answer: Persistent body temperature is a sign of infection.
detailed answer: If there is a continuous increase in temperature temperature has to be brought down simultaneously with treating the cause of temperature.
Tylenol contains acetaminophen it is an analgesic and antipyretic. Tylenol can bring the temperature down and can relieve pain but it does not treat the cause of raise of temperature.
more over if the infection is severe it cannot bring the temperature down.
i want him to be examined by his treating physician and to do some basic investigations like
Hb, Tc,Dc, Esr, widal, smear for MP MF, usg Prostate and PSA
and then to get treated accordingly.
