What Causes Persistent And Severe Abdominal Pain, Diarrhea And Nausea?

How long before you should be concerned if I m experiencing diarrhea? I ve had adnominal cramps, diarrhea and nausea for 4 days, mostly on a continuous basis. I took Imodium after 48 hrs. and it relieved the diarrhea however increased cramping and gas. Today diarrhea returned on a continuous basis. More than likely viral however, outside of taking water, is there something else I should try?

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent and severe abdominal pain, diarrhea and nausea. Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons like food poisoning , food allergy , infection of digestive system , gas , acid reflux , stomach flu or colic . Need not to worry. I would suggest you to sips of water or other clear fluids on a very frequent basis. If condition doesn't get better then consult gastroenterologist for proper examination and get complete examination done. Doctor may prescribe antiemetic drug , antibiotics, analgesic and antacid. You should take oral rehydration solution as well. You should avoid solid foods for a few hours try small amounts of mild foods such as rice, applesauce and do not take foods or drinks caffeine, carbonated beverages, citrus and dairy products.
