What Causes Persistent And Painful Sore Throats?

I've been having a sore throat for almost a week now. Other symptoms with the ore throat include: fever of 102.3 tops, coughing, pain in ears, and a runny nose.I've had a sore throat many times before but none as painful as this one. I can barely eat and drink water not only because it hurts, but because it's like it doesn't fit throw my throat. I went to my college Nursery and i tested negative for strep and mono. She gave me an antibiotic and many other pills I have to take. She said it was one of the worst looking throats she's seen. After 3 days with the antibiotic and the pills, my throat feels a little better, but it still hurts a lot. The pills did get rid of my fever just yesterday, but my coughing increased a little, so I'm beginning to take NyQuil. Do I just have a virus? Could this be Amigdalitis?

General Surgeon 's  Response
HI.
As per the history you have provided and as per the Nurse's advise , I think this is a bad granular pharyngitis with fulminate infection. I would even advise to take injectable form of antibiotics.
You should take bed rest. If the symptoms are so severe , I do advise all my patients with such a history and infection to get admitted to the hospital so that they can be given all medicines and fluids through veins.
This avoids the chance to into dehydration , which is very common in such cases.
