What Causes Periodic Numbness In The Right Hand And Arm?

I am 43 years old. I have developed periodic numbness in my right hand. Specifically in the first two fingers, thumb, the top of the hand under the three digits, on the palm under the same digits and the inside of the bottom of my right arm. I hand a painful point on the outside of my right shoulder. I thought it might be a pinched nerve but the shoulder pain is gone. The numbness in my arm and hand continues periodically.
