What Causes Passing Green Stool And Slow Weight Gain In Infants?

Hi Doctor,My baby is 8 months old now. She is 7.1 kg now and her birth weight was 3.04 kg. we have started giving her solid food now and she is eating well. But still her weight seems to be low and whenever she eats she passes motion in soft mushy texture , atleast 5 times a day. Sometimes I see that the stool is green in color. Is it normal? I dont know what has to be done , pls advise. Thanks,Anaswara

Hello Welcome to Health Care Magic.
your baby is adjusting new type of food. so motions can be irregular and can vary in texture. weight gain is also dependent upon race and genes. so you can not be sure about it. but it is necessary that baby should remain in normal range. as per 8 month 7.1 kg is not so bad. but you can improve it with making food energy dense with rice, banana, oil, ghee, etc.
green color of stool is little worrisome. It can be due to some infection. but till the baby is active and has no fever, there is no issue.

Hope this information helps you.
Best wishes.
