What Causes Paranoia, Anxiety, Forgetfulness And Mood Swings?

My mother is 81 and is showing signs of paranoia, anxiety, forgetfulness, repeating herself a lot, mood swings and frequent calling me crying and wanting to go back to Iowa which is home and she lives in Minnesota. She keeps telling me she is tired of being alone and no one to talk to. Also she is becoming mean in the since of what she says to people. Can you tell me if this is dementia or altimers?

hello.. does forgetfulness started before all the other symptoms? if yes then she might be suffering from dementia.as alzhimers is the most common type of dementia ,it may be alzhimers. all other anxiety ,paranoia you mentioned can be behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia. which usually occurs in advance stages of illness. i would suggest you to consult a doctor.
