What Causes Paint-related Tinnitus?

After painting last evening with latex paint in a poorly ventilated area I awoke this morning with tinnitus in my right ear. I ve experienced tinnitus before, rarely, but never so loud. What is the cause of paint-related tinnitus? Auditory nerve damage? or what? and how?
