What Causes Pain, nausea And Vomiting After An Appendectomy?

Beyond Irritated/Frustrated: I am a 37y old female, mother of 3...I started getting sick about a month an a half before I took myself to the hospital for being in so much pain that I had to have an Appendectomy on Nov., 24. It didnt burst & it was done laproscopy. Discharged on the 25th...I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SLEEP MORE THAN 3-4hrs a night...I told the surgeon that I still wasn't feeling well...Had to go back to the ER, Monday the 26th & they gave me different pain meds...Almost 2wks after my surgery I was still in pain, nausea, vomiting (even today), I have lost 30lbs & my stools are not right...I can't sleep becuz of my left side incision & tha side of my back hurts... I called the surgeon because my stool is now BLACK! I have an appetite but every time I eat I can only take a few bites then I start getting nausea, sweating & majority of the time will throw up...my blood pressure is Low for some reason. They have not put me on any medications at this time...I am just taking over the counter meds which now aren't working...I am tired of being poked, asked to take all these diff meds...I am very emotional today because I am at he end of my rope... Any info you may have would be very much appreciated... Thx You, Jen

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
First of all , all the organic causes of your symptoms should be ruled out. I suggest you should have USG abdomen , stool r/e, esr ,Tfts, cbc, rfts , lfts , CXR and stool for occult blood testing. So to look for any other possible diagnosis. Taking just over the counter medicine is of no help. If all these tests came out to be normal than i suggest you should have psychiatric consultation also as it could be Post traumatic stress disorder but this is very down the list after ruling out all diseases. If i were you doctor i would like to do physical examination and i would like to have complete history and all these labs done .

Apart from medication you can have lifestyle modifications that can help also:
High fibre diet, green leafy vegetables, fruit.
Cut down the processed food. White bread, doughnuts, white sugar, pizza should be completely avoided.
A 40 minute physical activity every day like morning walk, evening walk or a visit to the gym or swimming pool.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate to ask. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
