Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 26 year old female. My knee is stiff and making a grinding/crunching sound when going from a standing to a sitting position or when going up or down stairs. It has a constant feeling of being somewhat out of place and while not extremely painful it is causing mild pain. I can't recall any injury that would have caused this. It has been going on for about 3 days now without getting any better. Should I see a doctor or should it heal on it's own?

Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query.Your problem is most likely due to meniscal tear which can give such symptoms.A physical examination with an orthopedician followed by X ray and MRI if required can rule out the condition. In such case immobilization of knee by elastic bandaging , NSAIDs like nimusulide and quadriceps strengthening exercises helps. If not improvement then a diagnostic arthroscopy should be carried out and correction can be done through that also.Other cases you can get such a symptom is osteoarthritis. But considering your age i suspect meniscal injury.Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
