What Causes Pain Under Rib Cage And Shortness Of Breath?

Pain under my rib cage which then moves here & there throughout my body- mild pain with short breath, sharp pain when I take a deep breath....lasting seveeral days. My second episode. Feels better when lying down. Gas X does not help. A number of loose bowels; however that is normal for me.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Thank you for your question. Let me try and help.
From the history that you have given , if the pain began following any trauma/ lifting a heavy weight/ or a severe bout of cough, you should first get an X-Ray Chest to rule out a fracture rib.
If there is no fracture , it could be a simple muscle strain.
The third possibility is Costochondritis in which the pain has a specific location, so it is better to consult a physician who can examine you.
For all 3 scenarios, the management is primarily Rest and Analgesics for 3 - 6 weeks.

Hope this information is useful.
Take care.
