What Causes Pain On Back And Ribs After Injury?

I slipped going down stairs and fell on my back and slid down a few steps. I have pain on the right side just below rib cage and pain on my back right on my ribs. I m 38, 5 9 , 145 lbs and no other health issues. I have no trouble breathing, but it hurts when I cough, laugh or twist, bend to the side. There are no bruises, but the area is tender and hurts when I apply pressure. Other than fracturing a rib or two what other damage should I be worried about?

hi
even though you might have suffered # rib or not any injury to the chest is quite painful due to rich nervous innervation,
this pain hardly reduces even if you are on pain killers
application of local pain relieving gel can be of help.
if the pain is not subsiding please go for a chest x-ray,& ultrasound abdomen to rule out for the chest or any soft tissue injury( ultrasound) of the abdomen.
you can follow with deep breathing exercises, it really helps in lung expansion & relief of pain
all the best
take care
