What Causes Pain In Upper Gastrointestinal Tract?

my wife 57, is having gastric distress in her upper gi, pain is about 6-7 on a ten scale.

she take otc meds such as Priolosec, nothing we can identify as far as food or activities starts the pain process.
no bleeding or vomiting involved, slight fever at times.
any thoughts for us?
we take aspirin each day and she is taking rheumatoid arthritis medications, Enbrel.

I understand your query as I read it very carefully.
Even if you may have been using regularly Priolosec, sometimes when using medicines like aspirin or other pain killers, may lead to gastritis or even a stomach ulcer.
= If I was your caring doctor, I would recommend to consider doing a fibrogastroscopic examination, which will show for sure what is going on inside your stomach.
= Taking medications with food, or even avoiding using the ones that damage the stomach for some days (not the ones that help to keep stable the rheumatoid arthritis, but the pain killers) may help.
= Paracetamol/Codeine combination is sometimes a good substitute of aspirin, that does not hurt the stomach.
