What Causes Pain In Upper Back Radiating To Abdomen Under Rib Cage?

I have a strange mild stabbing like pain in my upper back on my right side that radiates to my front stomach under my rib cage. I m about 2 wks post UTI for e coli infection and was treated by cipiro. No continued UTI symptoms now. It is not severe pain and it is intermittent, and it feels like a jab in the back that pokes thru to my ribs in the front. Could this be a kidney infection. I had an kidney ultrasound last Feb and it was diagnosed that I might have dual collecting systems but kidney failure was negative. I am 52, female, diabetic and have hypertension. I m mildly obese. Could stand to lose maybe 30 lbs. I have suffered from UTI s since I was 6 years old.

This pain over upper back seems to be either rib pain or muscular pain here.

It can not be through kidney stone or infection and also the characteristics are also different in those pain.

However, you can go for repeat ultrasound abdomen scan to clear any remains doubt.

You should take oral analgesic (diclofenac) with topical analgesic over back side.

Also take antacids (pantoprazole or rabeprazole) to alleviate gastri pain or burning if any.

If problems persists then seek advice from some local doctor.
