Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
The base of my tongue feels like I sprang it. It is painful and very hard to eat. The pain started 2 weeks ago when I had some food stuck under my bridge on my lower left side of my mouth. I tried desperately to get the food out with my tongue. My mouth is also very very dry. Thank you,
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that you have injured your tongue with the hard surface of bridge in an attempt to remove the impacted food and there is traumatic injury to tongue leading to inflammation and pain.. Another factor that is dry mouth seems to be aggravating the condition as DRY mucosa are more prone to get inflamed as it starts getting atrophic/ thinned in lack of saliva.. O would suggest you to start gargling with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine to relieve pain.. Take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen.. Do warm saline gargles.. Suck ice and rinse with cold water.. Take a multivitamin tablet daily.. Chew sugar free chewing gum as it helps in stimulating saliva flow.. Drink plenty of water and maintain a proper Oral hygiene..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
