Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having occasional toe pain only at night while sleeping. It is the middle toe on my right foot and the 2nd toe on my left foot. When I get up and move around or even wiggle my toes for some time it helps to relieve the pain. It started about 3 weeks ago and happens about 5 of 7 nights
Pain can be due to injury to an area or maybe related, in some cases, to abnormal function of the nerves.
If there is no history of injury, then abnormal nerve function may be the cause of your symptoms. It is possible that there may compression of a nerve when you are in a laying down position or if you are diabetic, there may be nerve damage.
Other causes of abnormal nerve function are : low vitamin b12/folate, side effect of medication, thyroid disease, liver or kidney disease
Blood tests and imaging may be needed
I hope this helps
