What Causes Pain In The Ribs?

I fell on my right side playing softball. my right elbow was pushed into the upper portion of the rib area just below nipple line about 1/2 inch to 1 inch left of the right nipple. I do have pain there and have for about a week. I ve had cracked ribs in the past, but lower on the rib cage. most of the pain is concentrated in the center of the chest, not on the right side. any ideas.?

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about your trauma.

As per your history or symptoms it can be either the intercoastal muscle tear or a hair line fracture in rib.

Both the cases it will heal with time and no intervention is needed because at this time the muscle or bone must have started repairing.

In case there is pain while breathing, you must visit a orthopedic surgeon for further evaluation.

Hope my answer will help you and visit us back if you have any further assistance needed.
Regards
Dr Muzaffar Hussain Parray.
