Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My brother is having extreme pain on his lower left side below the belly button. the pain also radiates to his back. He had an Ultra Sound, the dr thought it might be kidney stones. Nothing. Yesterday an MRI showed that his spine does not have any issues. He does have unprotected sex with one person. He is 63 years old. His job is at the regional airport and he often has to clean toilets that are stopped up with a huge snake. He has anxiety issues, is diabetic and smokes cigarettes. Any ideas what he should have looked into next by the doctors? Thank you very much for your assistance.
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Lower abdominal pain with backache are also seen with urinary tract infection (UTI). Being a diabetic with history if recent unprotected Intercourse make him prone for UTI. So get done CBC (complete blood count) and urinary microscopic examination. If in CBC, white cells are raised and in urine report, pus cells are seen then UTI is confirmed. He may need antibiotics. Tell him to drink plenty of fluids orally. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your brother. Thanks.
