What Causes Pain In The Face And Head Due To Trigeminal Neuralgia?

My primary care doctor prescribed gabapentin for trimengal neuralgia; the pain still persists. Have an appointment with an excellent neurologist in April. What can I take for pain in the meantime? Face & head pain is excruciating from the time I wake up & throughout the day.
